Letter to the Voters

As you may or may not know, I Terry Stoffel will be running for Sheriff in the election of 2010. The current Sheriff will not be eligible to run again. Knowing this, I feel my decorated history in law enforcement qualifies me for the challenge of filling this office. It is important that you are aware of my past and present accomplishments that make me qualified to be the next Sheriff of Huntington County.

• Lifelong resident of Huntington County
• Indiana Law Enforcement Academy Graduate
• 18 Years in Law Enforcement
• 8 years as the Chief of Police
• Current President of the Fraternal Order of Police
• 16 years as a D.A.R.E Instructor for Huntington County Community Schools
• Board Member of the Police Athletic League

In addition to my qualifications, I have asked Detective Chris Newton to be my Chief Deputy. Detective Newton offers many positive qualities to Huntington County that make him an excellent choice as my Chief Deputy. Together we plan to accomplish numerous things for the Sheriff’s Department and the citizens it should serve.

• Work to bring together the City Police Department and Sheriff's Department in close cooperation with information sharing and emergency situations
• Provide a structured work release program for non violent offenders, and make the Sheriff’s Department more self sufficient to relieve some burden off of the tax payers
• Establish a cleanup crew comprised of non violent offenders to aid in the cleanup of Huntington County and Huntington City
• Re-establish a K-9 Patrol; currently there is none
• Re-establish the Honor Guard to display a sense of patriotism towards our country
• Provide the service of house checks. If your house is left unattended while on vacation, notify the Sheriff’s Department to check your home while gone.
• Increase patrols on county roads and highways

These are some of the main ideas that are in our focus currently. From coaching numerous sports teams to patrolling the streets of Huntington, I have served this community for over 18 years. In those 18 years I have developed one main concern. My concern is the well being of Huntington County and its citizens. I can assure you, if elected Sheriff, I will be open and accessible to this community.
